small stones – January 5, 2016

much like poets of old
bundled-up at their desks
a small fire blazing
a candle to write by
providing minimal heat
to frozen ink-blotched fingers
penning poetry
I too sit bundled
heater blasting
a small lamp illuminating
frozen fingers typing
penning poetry

  1. Several of my favourite journalists of the early 19th century write of thawing ink in order to record the day.
I love the connection you make between those “frozen” writers’ experience and that of your own.
    Very well done!

  2. There is a lovely simplicity and determination in these lines Lori, so nicely done…
