small stones – April 8, 2016

Red-belliedWoodpecker

and there you are
weaving and bobbing
up and down the tree
a cocked head
then a knock
are there any insects here?
and then you go crazy
madly pounding away
your red breast beating
to the beat of my heart
as I watch you
scavenge for a meal

I have to agree with the previous commenters, that the poem is lovely! The imagery is quite powerful.
