Who Is Lori Carlson?

(Latest update: November 27, 2016.)

My name is Lori Carlson. I am 50 years old, separated from my spouse (we live in different states) and currently living with my elderly father and brother. I am a Poet and Short Fiction Writer, a Spiritualist, a practicing Buddhist, a Solitary Witch and a Reiki II practitioner. I am also a Mental Health and LGBTQ Rights advocate (I am the B part of that equation).

I write sometimes under the pseudonyms Iona Nerissa and Ravyne Hawke.

I hold three degrees – an AAS in General Studies, a Bachelors in English, a Masters in Arts and Liberal Studies, as well as a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Creative Writing.

I have been writing for more than 30 years and delight in the written word. Poetry is my passion, but I also dabble in prose poetry, novellas, flash fiction and short stories. My muses, Catharine and Evelyn, as well as my Animus, Stefano, keep me quite busy.

I am not professionally published (except for a few poems here and there), but I do not write for publication, money, or recognition. I just love writing and sharing my words with whomever wishes to read them.

What can you expect to find here at A Whispered Wind? Poetry from my archives, new poetry, Flash Fiction and Short Fiction, Novellas, book reviews, book promotions and reblogs from some of my favorite writers here on WordPress.

More of my work can be found at Promptly Written  Promptly Written is a where I post short fiction, poetry, etc. from prompts. Feel free to drop by there as well.

Or, if you prefer to get to know *me* better, check out my personal blog As the Fates Would Have It where I share tidbits about my happenstance life.

I am in extreme denial that you’re 49 because when I pictured you, you were a 20-something. Age is just a number, because really, you don’t sound your age, you sound so much younger, vibrant and youthful! You’re awesome and amazing!

  16. Annie says:

Lori, I’m glad for the follow, because it led me here to you. I’m following back and looking forward to reading more of you. Hugs!

  28. Hi, Lori! Just wanted to thank you for your likes on my posts. I am very new at blogging and haven’t done much on a computer either. So’ come back again I am changing and so is my blog:)

  29. Sorry about the dogs.

  30. You have some nice works! Would you be interested in posting on my blog?(TheWritingHut)

    • Lori Carlson says:

Thank you 🙂 what kind of writing are you interested in me posting there? And how would I go about doing it?

      • You can chose between poetry, short stories, or tips for writing(guides). Anything that you wrote we accept 🙂
And to post you’d only need to register and send me your work, I will post it and after it you can post whenever you like or want.
As for returning the favor I can offer you a backlink/do the same thing for you(post a poem or story on your site). I wish I could pay people in cash but at the moment I am unable to do so.

If you want to do it you can contact me at admin@thewritinghut.net 🙂

      • Lori Carlson says:

Does the work I post there have to be unpublished work? The reason I ask is that all next month, I will be writing 29 original horror flash fiction stories and it would be nice to get extra exposure for them, but I plan to put them on my blog as well… would you still accept them? I do have some poetry that is not published anywhere yet that I could post soon. As for returning the favor… I don’t know how to do the guest posting thing… Would you send the work to me and then I post it with a link back to you? Sorry, there is still a lot to this blogging stuff that I don’t know.

      • Any work is fine, published or unpublished. I will be glad to host your stories as well, due to me not being a horror fan I cannot write anything remotely scary as of now xD
And for the exchange, yeah we can do it like that. What would you prefer for your blog, and should it be published or unpublished material 🙂

      • Lori Carlson says:

The same.. poetry, short fiction, writing tips… A Whispered Wind is that kind of blog, so any of that will do. And it doesn’t matter the genre of the short stories or the depth of the poetry. And it doesn’t matter if it is published or not either. Thank you! I will go register on your site now and dust off a poem to send to you. Do you want me to leave it on your website or email it to you? I can be reached at ravynehawke@gmail.com

      • Awesome, chose the one option that will be easier for you 🙂 I don’t mind ether.

      • Lori Carlson says:

Okay, let’s go with poetry 🙂 I just registered on the site… under Ravyne…

      • Lori Carlson says:

oh… did you mean about sending to you or adding to your site? if so, I will add it to the site.

      • Well it’s the same anyway, both need some time until I create the images for the poems 😀 so anyway is fine with me 😀

      • Lori Carlson says:

Thank you. I am about to submit a poem to the site. Feel free to email me one of your works any time and I will add it to A Whispered Wind 🙂

      • Sent you a whole lot so you can chose 🙂 glad to do this exchange with a fellow writer 😀
I will publish the poem in a few hours as now I must go to sleep xD
Thank you again for the opportunity!
        Have a nice day/night 🙂

      • Lori Carlson says:

You are most welcome and no hurry 🙂 I am just happy for the exchange with a fellow writer too 🙂 Sleep well! G’night

Southwest Virginia??? WHA? My mother’s family hails from Lee County. My grandfather was raised in Bonnie Blue. One of my dearest, oldest friends is from Keokee & her family lives these last 20-some years in Big Stone Gap.

    • Lori Carlson says:

Awesome! Do you ever come to the area to visit? I am closer to the western area of Southwest VA now… just north of Roanoke County and about an hour’s drive from West Virginia.

      • joey says:

Rarely. I’ve been down 4-5 times in the last 15 years or so. Beautiful area. I’m a big fan (unless I’m driving!) haha!

  32. Hello, Lori! Nice to meet you! 🙂 Thanks for the follow, and I’m following back. You wrote wonderful poems. 🙂 I read in your previous comments that you were not well. Hope you are alright now, and everything goes well smoothly for you. 🙂 Take care, and be blessed. 🙂

  39. Lori,

It has been some time. I hope you are well.

I want to thank you for following “A Way With Words.” My joy in writing is made more complete when people read what I’ve written (and even more so as they respond).

I write mainly about faith and mental illness, but am known to dabble in other subjects, stories, and even the occasional poem. If you have any requests, please let me know.

After going through a season of darkness and falling behind on my blog reading, I hope to engage in more. I look forward to following your work in particular.

I pray you are blessed in your life and writing, as you bless others.

    Gratefully,
    Tony Roberts

    • Lori Carlson says:

Thank you for stay in touch with me, Tony. I do enjoy your blog and although I may not always comment, I am reading it.

I am saddened to report that my health is not so well at the moment. I’ve been suffering from dizzy spells for a while and after a CT Scan, there is a lesion on my brain. Still not sure if that is what is causing the dizziness though. I go to see a Neurologist next week.

My spirits are high though. I’ve not done as much writing as I would like, but I hope to remedy that in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks again for writing to me. I look forward to reading more of your words.

      Blessings
      Lori Carlson
