Can you get over it?

The pain? The turmoil?

I feel it grabbing me

Like a hand from the grave

Pulling me back

Dragging me down to that one place

We fight tooth and nail to avoid.

We set out on the right course

To forge a new life

From the crumbling relics

We both held as reminders

Of where we would never go again.

Standing upon the cliff top

We cast them in to the sea

Watched as they floundered

The surf tossing them

With no consideration for the importance

They once thought they had.

Holding hands.

We wandered down the hill

Thinking of our pasts

That in that one moment

We’d expunged from our lives.

Hump Day Poetry – Week 11

hdp-banner

Hump Day Poetry is a weekly poetry blog-share every *Wednesday*

Here’s how you can join in

The rules:

1. Write a poem (any type of poetry, even for other challenges) You have from Wednesday to the following Tuesday to link up!
2. Grab the badge and display it on your blog to show your support.
3. Link it to my poem of the week with a pingback or by leaving the link to your poem in comments.
4. Visit other bloggers’ poetry for that week. Like, leave a comment, and share! (Please try to visit as many other poets as possible. Keep the community love flowing!)

Note: to create a pingback, simply include the url of this post somewhere in your post. Please check my page to ensure your pingback has posted. If not, it is either awaiting moderation, or the pingback failed (happens sometimes!). To ensure your post is seen, you may want to just add the link to my page. I would rather have duplicates than not get to read your poetry!

And now for my poem of the week….

The Bond We Share
~for Lisa D.

This is what binds us
an unshakable friendship
tested through hardship
and time, from years
of disbelief, that you
and I, should not be
but we proved them wrong
we are and will be

Mother couldn’t separate us
distance couldn’t either
not even arguments broke
the bond we share
those who don’t understand
will never know
how truly special we are
forged from fire and iron

Unbreakable, unmistakable
remarkably unique, friends
until our dying breath
after that, who knows
perhaps our energies
will mutate and we
become something far more
than mere friends
